Enamel on Steel Cooking Tips
Here are a few tips from our test kitchen experts about Le Creuset enamel on steel cookware and kettles:
- Enamel on steel cookware and kettles are compatible with all cooktops, including induction. They are also refrigerator and freezer-safe as well. But note that they’re not suitable for use in the oven or microwave, or on an unregulated heat source such as a barbecue, grill, open fire, wood burner or pizza oven.
- Wooden and silicone tools are best to use to prevent scratches and chips. Also when stacking or storing the pieces, it's a good idea to use something like Hot Pads between the pieces.
- Never place enamel on steel cookware and kettles in the dishwasher. To clean, simply hand wash with warm, soapy water and always dry thoroughly. To avoid scratching or damaging the enamel, we recommend using nylon or soft, non-abrasive pads or brushes.
- For more stubborn residues, staining or discoloration, fill the cookware or kettle with warm soapy water or baking soda (please use sparingly) and allow it to briefly soak to soften the residue and make it easier to remove. Just don't leave the dish submerged in water for extended periods of time.
- The enameled surface is non-porous so it's ideal for short-term storage of cooked or raw food. But prolonged storage of acidic food and beverages may eventually dull the surface, however this does not affect the performance of the piece.
- Remember to remove all water from kettles when they're not in use, and be sure the inside is dry before it is stored away.
